Your DIY style takes the cake

Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the whole reception, so you’ll want it to stand out as a statement of your style.

And when your style is one of a kind, personal and creative there’s only one option: DIY cake top!

Here are some top trends I’ve found to give you ideas for a wedding cake look that fits your wedding theme and your personality.

Letter perfect
Find old printers’ blocks or small wooden letters, and spell out just what you want to say on your cake. It could be your three-letter monogram, your last name initial, “love” or another phrase, or your wedding date.

Down to the wire
Get 12-gauge decorative wire and wind it and bend it to match your style. Make initials, hearts, phrases – whatever you want your cake to say.

Banner day
Take the popular banner theme and add it to the top of your cake. Cut out pennant shapes from old maps, sheet music, book pages or colorful paper. Attach the pennants to ribbon or twine, attach to two stakes, and put it on your cake.

On board
Chalkboard theme wedding? Find tiny chalkboard picks and write your message on them for a cute, vintage cake top. Use chalk or a white sharpie to prevent smudging.
