Ann’s high-end wedding invitation designs are often three-dimensional, die cut, patterned and textured. She chooses the materials and the processes that will help convey the emotion she wants the bride and her guests to feel when they see the invitation.
Want to know more about what inspires her and her luxury designs? We did too! Here’s what Ann told us when we talked to her.
What inspires you?
I’m always looking at the fashion and design industries, because these are what drive paper. My invitations have patterns and textures like Chanel quilting that make them high style. My clients also inspire me to create something new and different. I can be somewhat of a chameleon and am always ready to push myself to please the client.
Describe your style in three words.
Clean, modern and emotion.
How long have you been designing wedding stationery?
I have a marketing and advertising background, and began designing invitations in 2001. I do all the art myself with the help of another designer.
Out of all the invitations you have designed, which is your favorite?
There was a three-color letterpress invite on thick paper that I love. I designed it for a friend, who told me to run with my creative ideas. We mailed the invitation in a box filled with rose petals and sealed the box with icing. And I love it when my clients love their invitations. When they tell me their phones are blowing up from people calling to gush about the invitations they just received, that’s when I’m most happy.
Any tips for brides on finding their wedding stationery style?
I tell them to look at their invitations from a marketing and branding standpoint. I ask them to describe their weddings in three words, what they’d want someone to wear to the wedding, the message they want to send, what they’d like to hear guests say after the wedding is over. The bride gives me mini creative brief, design ideas, Pinterest boards, everything. Then I help them edit and prioritize.
When you’re not designing, what do you do in your down time?
I spend time with my family. My husband is a dentist, and I have two boys aged 13 and 10 who are very active in sports. And a yellow lab named Harley who loves to be walked. I like to cook and create things – I’ve always had the urge to create.
Name three favorite things in your house.
A painting that is a family heirloom. My blender for making smoothies – everyone gets excited when the blender comes out, even the dog when I make him some frosty paws. And my stainless steel work table. It’s got clean lines and so versatile for me and my staff to use. We call it “the hub”.
