We’re crushing on…creative pumpkins

Creative ideas for decorating and carving unique pumpkins for Halloween
Hey there, pumpkin. You’re tired of the same old smiley-faced jack-o’-lantern stuff, aren’t you?

So are we. After a giant brainstorming session talking about knives (eek) and pumpkin innards (yuk) and seeds for roasting (mmm), here’s what we came up with. Six pumpkins, six totally different looks.

Here’s how we did it:

A. Skip the carving. Use a lino cutter to scrape fall leaf designs into the pumpkin skin. Don’t cut too deep. Hot glue leaves to the top.

B. Get acrylic paints and some fine brushes and paint a great face on a whole pumpkin. Add a hat. And a raven. (We call this guy Edward.)

C. Empty the pumpkin. Trace a cartoon character face on it, and cut along the lines. So awesome it’s…ridiculous.

D. Sugar skull, sweetie. Paint a whole pumpkin with your version of traditional Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) design. Hot glue red roses to the top.

E. We moustache you a question…how can you not love this dapper, moustached dude? Empty the pumpkin and carve up your own. Top it with a hat.

F. Full contact. Use contact paper in a great design to cover a whole pumpkin. Add a burlap ribbon and your initial. Or your friend’s initial, and give it to her.
