Wedding etiquette: Escort cards vs. place cards

Traditionally speaking, couples were once expected to use both escort and place cards at the reception to help direct guests to their seats. Today, many brides confuse the two terms, often using one or both in the same form, however there is a difference between the two. If you don’t already know the how these cards vary in style, here’s a quick brush up on wedding etiquette behind the name cards to help you decide which practice is better for your occasion:

– Escort Cards are a more contemporary stationery used at weddings today. Typically, escort cards are stationed on a table near the entrance of the reception hall for guests to find. The full name and table number are printed on the piece of cardstock, directing guests to their designated table while allowing them to choose a seat for themselves.

– Place cards, on the other hand, are traditionally set at the place setting. This type of name card is used to assign a specific table and seat to wedding guests. Although this is a very personal way to plan your wedding tables, many couples think that the task of designating a specific seat to every last person is too time consuming. With the right attitude though, couples can help create a fun, upbeat atmosphere for guests to mingle with old and new faces.

Nice article!! Both are good but the escort cards are much better. Some guests are little confused in deciding. It makes easy for the guests in the wedding ceremony.

Wow! Nice and beautiful cards. Both are attractive but the escort card is much better than place card. It can be used for everyone where as place card is personally used only for one. So I ll prefer escort card rather than place card in my wedding.
