Sochi party: Dressing up your drinks

The Sochi Winter Olympics are as good an excuse as any to get together with friends and follow your favorite athletes. And you can’t throw a party without the Russian drink-of-choice: vodka. The word vodka actually comes from the Russian word “voda,” meaning water. Don’t worry, even if you’re not a vodka fan, there are ways of dressing up this drink to disguise the taste. You can also make a note on your personalized invitations for guests to BYOB so everyone has a beverage that they enjoy. However, you must always offer a balance of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks for your guests. Here are a few creative ways to put your beverages on display for your Olympic bash:

Add herbs
Herbs not only give your cocktails a burst of flavor, they enhance the appearance of the beverages as well! You can infuse the liquor with herbs overnight or simply use them as a last-minute garnish.

Decorative straws
Give some life to your beverages with fun patterned straws. Striped straws filled with color allow your party guests to sip in style.

Customized napkins
Never underestimate the power of accessories like coasters and napkins. You could have your napkins personalized with the theme of the party and choose a color that coordinates well with the hue of the cocktails on your Olympic menu.
