Throwing a winter Olympics party

The Sochi winter Olympics are in full swing, so now is the perfect time to be thinking about throwing a party for the big event. After all, what better way is there to brave the cold weather than by cheering on your favorite athletes with friends? Even if you’re not a big sports fan, this is the perfect excuse to get together and have some fun. Here are a few tips for hosting a party for the winter Olympics:

Fondue
Nothing screams winter comfort food more than fondue. Depending on the amount of people you invite over, set out a few pots of steaming cheese and platters of food for dunking. Cubes of bread and veggies like broccoli, carrots and cauliflower are all winning choices.

Russian snacks
You can’t throw a Russian winter Olympics party without a little taste of the host city, Sochi. Serve anything from pickled cucumbers and white Russian cupcakes to Olivier salad, which combines boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, peas, dill pickles and mayonnaise. And you can’t forget about Russian beer and plenty of vodka.

Set a dress code
If you want to have a bit of friendly competition at the party, you can ask your friends to come dressed to represent different competing countries. Whichever countries lose have to buy a round of drinks for the winners. Make a note of the dress code on your personalized invitations.
